Alianza of Colombian Adoptees

Join us for one of two (or both ;) community gatherings or "Charlas" — open and informal conversations. Click the buttons below to sign up for the meeting on Wednesday, July 16th from 8 to 9 PM EST or the meeting on Saturday, July 19th from 2 to 3 PM EST.

A "Charla" is all about connecting through meaningful dialogue, and that's exactly what we envision for this meetup. This is your chance to share what’s on your mind, explore what matters most to our community, and connect in a supportive environment. In addition to creating a welcoming space for a free-flowing community discussion, we would like to focus the discussion on the topic of the upcoming Colombian independence day (Sunday, July 20), and what it means to you.

This event is exclusively for Colombian adoptees aged 18 and over. Come as you are, and let’s talk!

If you decide to join us, please sign up and a Zoom link will be emailed to you one (1) hour before the event start time.

Overview

“The word home is virtually impossible to translate into other tongues, we are told by classicist Bartlett Giamatti. It is not a concept, not a place, but a state of mind where self-definition starts. It is origins. We can see the search for Home as a universal quest, but for the adopted person it is also a literal one. It is a quest for the beginning of one’s narrative; for the lost mother; for unconditional love; for meaning; for the recovery of lost time; for a coherent sense of self; for security; for form and structure; for grounding and centering.”

Lifton, B. J. (1995). Journey of the adopted self: A quest for wholeness. BasicBooks. (pp. 127-128).
