Alianza of Colombian Adoptees

Fall 2025 Charla 1

As usual, we would like to invite community members to join an open discussion surrounding topics related to Colombian adoption and displacement. However, this week, we are very pleased to invite community member, Norina Andina, to share her story of her recent return to Colombia and her unfolding reunion story. We will give the floor to Norina for most of the evening, but there will be time for open discussion as well. Also, ACÁ is very excited to announce that we are recruiting new members to our board. We will be posting online about our recruitment efforts prior to the event, and we will be happy to answer any questions that come up in the interim at the Charla. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, October 8! Click this link to register for the meeting: http://bit.ly/4mylJfC

Overview

“The word home is virtually impossible to translate into other tongues, we are told by classicist Bartlett Giamatti. It is not a concept, not a place, but a state of mind where self-definition starts. It is origins. We can see the search for Home as a universal quest, but for the adopted person it is also a literal one. It is a quest for the beginning of one’s narrative; for the lost mother; for unconditional love; for meaning; for the recovery of lost time; for a coherent sense of self; for security; for form and structure; for grounding and centering.”

Lifton, B. J. (1995). Journey of the adopted self: A quest for wholeness. BasicBooks. (pp. 127-128).
